Needlebook created as part of my volunteering with Stitching Together,
a initiative by Bridges for Communities
Whilst recognising that stitching is not exclusive to women, I love the femininity of it. I am drawn to the idea of women rebelling against forced domesticity with a domestic act. I have found a space with the Women's Sewing Circle where I feel connected, supported and supportive. Needlework takes time and time together is time well spent.

My work is ultimately about weaving stories, processing identity, understanding and meaning. Although there is richness in completion, when it comes to my creativity, I am most interested in the process, and spending time with something.. a story, a feeling, an idea.. that is conveyed in a most personal way; if it feels natural, the work itself chooses it's completion. I know that sounds starry-eyed, but whenever I think I know what will happen or how I would like something to turn out, I am proved wrong by the process itself. More of a follower than a forger, and yet forging. My practice is an act of Faith, to keep me sane in this world, to connect to softness and purpose and beauty. To laugh and enjoy sly undertones. Everything means something, even if I don't realise it. I am engaging in Sacredness and I like it.
The outcome has a depth of meaning to me but the viewer is free to find their own meaning. I think creating art is a humbling act because we must give it away. If we are brave and send it out there, our art has impact and meaning for others that we cannot grasp - we do not own our art, we share it.
